26+ inches and lovin' it

i love being snowed in.  our first snow of the season here in new jersey was a magical 26 inches and it came down constantly for over a day.  they called it "blizzardgeddon". since it was the weekend, we stayed inside {except to take hazel out to play/dig out our cars} ate soup and ben and jerry's, and drank hot chocolate.  i was feeling a little blah before this, but being snowed in was exactly the medicine we needed.

yesterday.

yesterday with the fam:
we played basketball, jumped on the tramp, and andy even introduced me to dragonvale.  john got a haircut - thanks melissa!  and we celebrated with ice cream on the way home {seriously, i can always find an excuse to get ice cream!} we finished the night off with arrested development and are pumped for the new season/movie to come out! {if it ever does....}

we do late night ice cream runs.

last night, we went on a mission to walmart to find a wii motion-plus accessory for john's new zelda game.  

naturally, they didn't have it.  

on the plus-side, john treated us to nielsens on the the way home.

ice cream, christmas pillowcases, and other things i love.

things i am loving lately:

tillamook udderly chocolate ice cream.

christmas pillowcases from my mom.

this handsome man.

scones for lunch.

also:

our two and a half hour nap today.

john's wonderful fried rice.

knowing that there are only 27 sleeps until christmas.

i am thoroughly convinced that red robin has the best sweet-potato fries in the state.

maybe even the nation.
last night, we went out to eat at a old-time favorite.
red robin. yum.
i love the weekends because i get to eat delicious food, watch fun movies, and snuggle with my best friend nonstop and keep him all to myself.

and the rookie magic shake, i will have you know, is actual real magic.

recent brunt happenings. {and why i have been m.i.a. as of late!}

school has been kicking my butt these past two weeks.  i have had ups and downs like you wouldn't believe!  one day i love nursing, the next i hate it and am ready to quit.  {dramatic, yes?}

lately, my saving graces:

1.  john's patience, love, support, and comfort.
2.  staying over at my parents house on saturday and sunday to be with our {neff} family.
3.  seeing my sister eden rock the stage in annie jr.
4.  dinner with the {brunt} family, and seeing erin and aaron for the first time in months.

5.  cuddling next to john with a cup of ice cream and an episode of psych.

6.  the cool air after a rainstorm.

we went here for dinner last night, and i watched monk whilst john studied like a madman.  we would appreciate your thoughts/prayers over the next day or so - the massively horrible no good very bad test is to be tackled tomorrow.  wish john luck!

there's just something about oreo shakes that makes everything better.

a wonderful evening.

john's brother george plays in a band.  they play folk/bluegrass/hymn revival/etc. and they are absolutely wonderful.  they were playing at a fireside last night, and john and i couldn't resist crashing the party to hear their great music. afterwards, we got better batter ice cream: mine with twix, heath, and waffle-cone, john's with cookie-dough, fudge, and oreo.  is your mouth watering yet?  

here is part of my favorite song from the evening.  it was written by louisa stead, who was one day at the beach with her husband and daughter and they saw a man drowning.  her husband went to save the man - who dragged him under with him - and he also drowned, louisa and her daughter on the beach, helpless to do anything but watch their beloved husband and father die in the water.  she wrote this song shortly after.  her words of courage and faith in Christ are absolutely beautiful.

thanks for taking me to go see that new movie last night.

we are kinda obsessed with ice cream.

last night, we were completely boring.  in typical john and paige fashion, we ate dinner, listened to harry potter on tape, watched some psych, and went to get some ice cream.  these days, i am full-swing into summer-mode: doing nothing but teaching swim lessons, sitting by the pool, doing my mom's bidding {heh heh}, reading books, and watching countless episodes of bones....  and then john comes home, and we do all those things over again. isn't that great?  we also like to go on long walks through the neighborhood and sit on the top of wasatch blvd and watch the sunset.  

{side note:  i feel guilt that my summer is like this.  in this interim between may and august i feel very little stress. while john works all day in a stuffy accounting office i am at the pool reading a book.  see what i mean?  guilt!}

so, in typical john and paige fashion, i give you:  the nielson's obsession:

seeing the parentals, lots! {and eating ice cream with them}

i just love life.

we also got to listen to my brother sam sing this song, one last time.

he is going to the U on a vocal scholarship next fall.

and i am so proud of him.

i am totally a summer bum.

evidence:

1.  yesterday, i showered at 5pm.

2.  i have read two novels in this past week.

3.  the most pressing thing i have to do is walk from the couch to the kitchen to stuff my face with easter candy:

4.  i'm almost starting to say, "school? what is that? and why would anyone ever put themselves through such misery?!"

5.  i'm crafting!

6.  i'm not cooking.  why would i cook when my mom makes such deliciousness as this:

{fried egg rolls and won tons,

and bacon-fried rice.}

7.  there are plenty of these in the fridge, and i am drinking one constantly:



8.  i am consistently on the hunt for the perfect vacation for john and i.  jamaica, anyone?  {and i'm kinda serious.}  i just can't get the idea of beaches, sunshine, and unlimited diet cokes out of my head.

9.  i distract john from studying, and we end up watching war of the worlds together.

10.  we get fro-yo every night.

i still think:  innocent until proven guilty.

drove through a raging snowstorm, {thank you, utah.}
got cheesesteaks with john and the in-laws.

have you noticed that my life pretty much revolves around food?

little date.

sometimes, john and i go on little dates.

a lot of the time, actually.

and they usually include food, ice cream, and a movie.

they actually all the time do.

so last night, we used this:

and had the most delicious {and fattening} dinner ever.

then we rented despicable me,

and watched it while snuggling on the couch.

thanks for the little date, my darling husband.

friday date.

 on friday night, john surprised me by coming home early,

so that we could make a quick trip to the temple before it closed.

he's a great husband like that.

 afterwards, we got shakes and snuck them into the movie theatre.

{the king's speech was the movie of choice and it was so good!}

i love little dates with my husband.  

relocating leaves.

today, john and i decided that it was time to relocate the leaves in our backyard,

since you could no longer see the grass.

so we raked.  

and raked.

and raked.

and raked some more.

then i jumped into the pile.

and got covered in leaves.

{oh. my. gosh. isn't my man just smokin hot?}

other saturday adventures included:

getting john's tire patched since a screw went into it.

eating at california pizza kitchen.

buying avocados at sunflower market {3 for a buck!}

buying call of duty - black ops for john, since he couldn't wait until christmas.

watching john play call of duty - black ops for over an hour. 

doing laundry, cleaning the kitchen and bathrooms, 

etc. etc. etc.

i'm gonna need to talk john into ice cream later.
