last night, john and i tried desperately to 'copy' the pixie's neat distorted guitar and vocals {like this song} - except with an acoustic guitar and piano. we failed. but we did enjoy playing music together. i am loving this time in our lives when we get to spend evenings together doing the things we love. hopefully we will continue to improve, {because i am still learning this whole indie-rock thing}, and hopefully we will always have time to play music together. i love it.

i love it when he plays guitar.
to all you single ladies out there:
find one who plays the guitar.
because if you don't, then you'll never know what this is like:
and john, in all his red-headed-devilishly-handsome-humility, will be super embarrassed by this post.
so let's just keep this a secret, okay?
but seriously, when john plays the guitar, he's not doing it to impress anyone. he's not doing it to make me swoon {although it does tend to have that effect}. he's not doing it to occupy time or to make money or to have a hobby.
no, john plays guitar because he loves it.
and that, my friends, is one of the reasons
he makes me go weak in the knees.

saturday adventures.
saturdays for john and i are often adventuresome. this last saturday, we raced to get the car's oil changed and make it to john's intramural flag football game in time. afterwards, we walked all the way down to the stadium for the byu football game, realized we had printed off two of the same ticket and i {the nucklehead that i am} had forgotten my student I.D. so we walked all the way back up to our house, and then all the way back down to the stadium. after a fun {and kind of sad for idaho state} game, we walked back home. {that's an hour total of walking, folks.}
we got dinner at costco for $5.37 {i love that costco pizza.... and cheap costco dates....} and then went up to salt lake to see my brother sam perform in university singers. {he was amazing, as always.} my favorite song from the night was "there will be rest". there's an equally beautiful version of it here. completely beautiful.

rooftop concert.
last night, we had a wonderful evening of dinner and music with george, leslie, ryan, and janessa. it was so fun to watch the lower lights again. we really love their music.
hope you are having a lovely weekend!

low, the moth and the flame.
on friday night we went to see one of our favorite bands, low, with ryan and janessa and phil and briana. i am always amazed by low's powerful lyrics, beautiful harmony, scratchy guitar, and steady percussion. the moth and the flame were there too, and we kind of liked them as well, despite a want of more variety in their songs. low's song, silver rider, has to be my all-time favorite.

a wonderful evening.
john's brother george plays in a band. they play folk/bluegrass/hymn revival/etc. and they are absolutely wonderful. they were playing at a fireside last night, and john and i couldn't resist crashing the party to hear their great music. afterwards, we got better batter ice cream: mine with twix, heath, and waffle-cone, john's with cookie-dough, fudge, and oreo. is your mouth watering yet?
here is part of my favorite song from the evening. it was written by louisa stead, who was one day at the beach with her husband and daughter and they saw a man drowning. her husband went to save the man - who dragged him under with him - and he also drowned, louisa and her daughter on the beach, helpless to do anything but watch their beloved husband and father die in the water. she wrote this song shortly after. her words of courage and faith in Christ are absolutely beautiful.

bright eyes.
i've always considered myself an optimist. really!
so let's just focus on the positives of last night, shall we?
{i won't mention the terrible state some american teenagers and young adults are in - the booze, weed, immorality, and poor lifestyle in which many choose to indulge - some call it freedom of expression, i call it ruining your life. and i definitely won't mention being pushed and shoved by people who needed to get to the front so that they could take off their bras and give them to mr. bright eyes.... and don't ask me to mention the girl that passed out right next to me during the concert. oh, i pity them. i really do!}
we had a wonderful time at the concert last night! we had delicious cheesesteaks at our favorite place, and listened to some good music, and got diet coke on the way home. and, despite the injuries of the evening, i got to cuddle with a big tall redhead throughout the concert. and that, my friends, makes it all worth it.
